The Cheviot Hills form the northern end of the main Pennine chain, where the "backbone of England" slopes away towards the Scottish border country.
At 2,674 feet (815 metres) the hill known as the Cheviot itself is the highest in the range and is also one of the highest fells in the Pennine chain.
