The town of Northallerton lies not far from the A1 in the Vale of Mowbray between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors national park. As such, the town is conveniently situated for touring some of England's most beautiful and varied countryside.
Northallerton is famous for being the birthplace of John Radcliffe (founder of Oxford's "John Radcliffe Hospital") and (more recently) the mountaineer Alan Hinkes.
